When I first went to my gp (a few months ago) with no af she diagnosed me with secondary amenorrhea and ordered some tests... after a bfn of course...
Her first thought was that I had no af because I was underweight (I somehow, not intentionally, lost 6kg) and only weighed 46kg.
So I've been stuffing myself and still have only gained about 1kg...
She also did blood tests and the only thing that stood out was prolatin. Mine was unusually high at 919.... (normal levels are 85-500). This was over a month ago and I am re-testing tomorrow.
She thought this was due to stress (I didn't think I was stressed?) from working 3 days and having uni for 3 full days. Here I was thinking I could handle it, and I thought I was. Reluctantly I cut down my hours to relieve pressure on myself, sacrificing that extra money I'm trying to save for our house deposit.
I also had an u/s about a week ago and that just brought up more questions.
- No signs of a baby of course (still broke my heart a little.... I know I'm dreaming)
And talk about being uncomfortable? One thing I'm not looking forward to when pg, I'm prefer a pap any day over an u/s... lol
Wow where do I start? Talk about a lot going on down there??
Firstly I had or have endo... (probably why I use to have such painful af)
I have a slightly solid nonspecific nonvascular hyperechoic lesion? (Got to love that medical mumbojumbo)
I have more than 20 follicles on my ovaries and probably pcos (even though I'm under not over weight and don't have excessive hair growth?)
My gp referred me to a gyno which I have an appointment with at the end of this month.
So now the impatient wait for more answers!
Wow, lady, that's a lot to digest. Thankfully you are young, that's definitely in your favour! There's always hope so keep your chin up. I have a friend who had cysts on her ovaries and was told she would struggle to have children and to start trying ASAP and she got pregnant shortly thereafter. My aunt had endo really bad, they told her she would never had children do she stopped worrying about birth control and had two beautiful babies. I look forward to following your journey....
ReplyDelete-waves- Found your blog! :-D
ReplyDeleteHigh prolactin is a bit of problem. That's the hormone that is produced when breastfeeding and one of the things it does tend to do is inhibit ovulation. No ovulation = no baby and hence, also, no AF. PCOS really depends on the severity. Endo depends again on severity but also the location. If you've got the stuff on your ovaries it can be troublesome. As for the hyperechoic blah blah blah, I've got no idea... LOL.
I have read that B6 is good for reducing prolactin levels and you can get bottles of the stuff from blackmores which are a pretty decent dose. Maybe worth giving that a try? I would say otherwise they may hit you with metformin for the PCOS (possibly) and some Clomid to get you to actually ovulate. Looks all pretty hairy but at the end of the day, so long as they can pop one egg, that's all you need!
Yep. Tried the B6. Well all B vitamins. Lol. When I talked to my mum she bought me blackmores B stress formula. I was a bit reluctant to try it but I have been taking it and havn't seen any differences (besides the extremely fluro yellow urine). Lol. Just a waiting game now until I get my other blood results and see the gyn!
DeleteTry the Blackmores exclusive B6: http://www.blackmores.com.au/products/vitamin-b6
DeleteThe exclusive B6 has 197mg of B6 whereas the stress formula only has 25mg which is not going to be enough. You'll need at least 100mg for it be effective. :-)
Will do. Thanks!
